EARTH CHANGES UPDATE
(June, 2004)
With the release of the film, "The Day After Tomorrow", the growing danger of major climate shifts is beginning to seep into the collective consciousness of the American people. Britain has been taking it seriously for two years. So has the Pentagon. Now, with the new film - fictional, of course - the possibility that a new ice age is imminent is on the table for consideration.
(It is not my intention to cover old ground. The reader is invited to review my "Ice Age Pesher", published two years ago.)
In 540 AD, the northern hemisphere experienced a short, but serious climate shift which some researchers believe resulted in the loss of a third of Europe's population. It may have been caused by volcanic activity far away. There are some scanty records of a blazing comet prominent in the daytime sky. We don't know for sure, but the remarkable thing about this event is that historical records are not the source of our knowledge of this devastating period. We learn about it from tree rings.
It would not have been the first time that something important has fallen into a memory hole. I have mentioned the fact that the original 13th Amendment to the U. S. Constitution - called the "Title of Nobility Amendment" was never repealed, just conveniently forgotten (have you noticed the number of American public figures in recent years who have been "knighted" by the Queen of England? This sort of thing was forbidden under that amendment). It was written out of the history books, ignored in law schools, and buried in the nation's archives.
Then, I have released my newest book, Hierogamy and the Married Messiah, which at the very least, reveals evidence in the Bible which can only be explained if Jesus were married. Yet, the entire Christian world believes Jesus was a monk. How is it possible that a religion can know so little about its founder as to not even know that he was married and had children?
Now, scientists are discovering that ice ages occur with lightning speed, within twenty years. The Gulf Stream is slowing down, the North Atlantic is cooling. The Pacific Ocean is pumping moisture into the atmosphere at record levels. Record snow storms are increasing.
We are already beginning to feel the economic consequences from last winter's harsh temperatures and record storms. We are told that gas prices are high because oil is high, and oil is high because the Arabs are trying to put the squeeze on us. There may be no single cause, but industry leaders will tell you that if their refineries are diverted to making more heating oil, gas shortages are likely to occur. It's an issue of supply and demand. Less gas, higher demand means higher prices. I think we have entered into a period of economic decession which will become ever more evident after our next winter.
Don't forget, our food supply, from the fertilizer to the truckers, is dependent on oil. If we divert too much of our resources to staying warm, it will adversely affect our food supply. The vise could tighten in poorer countries, leading to wars and revolutions, further disrupting the world economy.
This is a gloomy scenario. Who wants to think about it? I don't. But I must. I am a father and a husband. It is my job to anticipate dangers to protect my family. I am offering you my spiritual counsel. Never assume that things as they are will continue for ever. That is a fault of our species. We are creatures of habit. We are addicted to our routines. Always remember, only the species which can adapt to changes in its environment survives.
